Dalton Ave.

Long Wick, Slow Flame

Glorious

And if I sing out in the dark of night

Or praise you in the light of dawn

Hear my song and lift me on your wings

And if I worship you in solitude

Or join a choir 10,000 strong

Hear my song ’till all creation sings

Glorious, shining so glorious

Though I stumble, though I fall

You remain Glorious

Towards your light

I come running, I come running

Into Your arms

I come running, I come running

You have searched me, You have known my heart

You’ve heard my every anxious thought

Hear my song, it’s all I have to bring

And though the battle’s come, this much is known

Victory’s won by You alone

Hear my song my Saviour and my King

Glorious

Shining so glorious

Though I stumble, though I fall

You remain glorious

Towards Your light

I come running, I come running

Into Your arms

I come running, I come running

Every faithless mission

every false ambition

Here I lay them at Your feet

As in heaven, as on earth

I will ever sing Your worth

You alone make me complete

Glorious

Shining so glorious

Though I stumble, though I fall

You remain glorious

Towards Your light

I come running, I come running

Into Your arms

I come running, I come running

Heaven Come My Way

I’ve always aimed higher, don’t let me off the hook
We wrote a chapter, haven’t finished the book
The high road’s the hard one, but doesn’t it feel right?

I wish I didn’t have to leave, but that doesn’t mean I’ll stay
I’ve heard the call, and I’ll answer anyway

Heaven come my way, come my way
I’ll go through the storm, if I can hear you say
Help is on the way, on the way

It can’t be that far, take me to the stars
You brought me this far, don’t bid me farewell
Give me the courage to finish it well
Keep my feet moving forward and my eyes above

Heaven come my way, come my way
I’ll go through the storm, if I can hear you say
Help is on the way, on the way
It can’t be that far, take me to the stars

Take me, take me where you are
Take me, take me to the stars
Take me, take me where you are

Heaven come my way, come my way
I’ll go through the storm, if I can hear you say
To the stars
Oh, where you are
To the stars
Oh, take me home where you are
To the stars
Heaven come my way
Heaven come my way

Kinley: According To Ride The Tempo

The Kinley I’m referring to here is not the lame band that comes up in the last.fm results when you search the name. He is maritime born singer-songwriter Joshua Docksteader who now lives in the prairies of Saskatchewan. The acoustic-folk album fair hero was released February 25, 2011.

Tracklist
1. Only Escape
2. Mercy For Us All
3. Foxfire
4. Watching Out For You
5. Defeat
6. On the Edge of Triumph
7. Tomorrow
8. Winter to Spring
9. What Everyday Brings
10. Thank God
(bonus track). Taxi Driver

When I first looked at the album’s tracklist I almost wrote this off entirely as some sort of Christian album. Upon listening to the album, his lyrics and poetry could be inspired by higher power as well as his own faith and love for the world. Despite the religious underlying, it wasn’t annoyingly pretentious or anything like that.
As an atheist person, it wasn’t an album I minded listening to. There was a ton to it musically that was worth talking about. The songs were simple sounding but when you really listened carefully you could hear the tiny details that made them musically successful. Sometimes it’s the addition of a female vocalist like in Winter to Spring or how in Defeat he shows how vulnerable he is and surrenders to the music as it envelops him as it builds.

Reading the liner notes I learned that it was an album that was actually recorded by Dalton Holloway in Josh’s house. This explains the warm organic sounds you hear and Josh’s ability to pour his heart into song.

Kinley: According To Chart Attack!

There’s no doubt Kinley is a name foreign to many ears. The acoustic folk singer from the prairies of Saskatchewan whose real name is Josh Docksteader humbly introduces himself by weaving a web of simplistic pleasures on his Fair Hero debut album.

Kinley’s clearly faith-based (religious-wise) as a songwriter, and his songs are personal, inspirational tales of hope and perseverance in a world gone astray. They’re devoid of pretentious motives, and are truthful expressions of a longing heart. Although Fair Hero‘s melancholic at times, there’s no denying the optimism that resonates throughout its core.

Kinley’s voice is a blend of sorrowful regret and unwavering endurance, and it truly aids the LP’s thematic structure. Themes of loss and submission found in “Mercy For Us All” and “Defeat” are interspersed with themes of rejuvenation and rebirth in “On The Edge Of Triumph” and “Winter To Spring.” So, as straightforward as the Fair Hero is stylistically, there’s great emotional depth lyrically.

Although there are other musicians credited on the album (and they do provide exceptional support), this is a highly personal record that derives from one soul. And with nothing to lose, Kinley lays it all out for the listener to embrace.

Simplicity at its best.

Thanks Mike Peters.  Means a lot.

Break My Fall

My coat is warm it shields me from the chill
Empty swings and i see couples kissing
Walk the path that leads back to the house
It’s time for bed, “Goodnight my love” she said

Break my fall today

I lack the strength it takes

To be invincible

From this earthly toll

So many falls to break

Please show me what it takes

To be immovable

When my spirit shakes

Drive back home is this the same old road
I’ve seen those trees but never quite so clearly
Circumstance will change the way we see
This won’t last i’m not alone

Break my fall today

I lack the strength it takes

To be invincible

From this earthly toll

So many falls to break

Please show me what it takes

To be immovable

I know I don’t deserve the light you bring, but You still shine down on me

I know I don’t deserve the light you bring, but He still shines down on me

So break my fall today

I lack the strength it takes

To be invincible

From this earthly toll

So many falls to break

Please show me what it takes

To be immovable

When my spirit shakes
